The atrium-styled red brick building on Boston's Freedom Trail Walking Tour, across the street from Faneuil Hall Marketplace, spans centuries. During construction the hotel's developer supported a pioneering urban archaeological study of the site. Objects found there and now displayed in the hotel lobby include some of Boston's earliest colonial artifacts. Yet The Bostonian's interior styling--sweeping curves, multi-story windows, glass-enclosed elevator--is distinctly 21st century. Guest rooms feature king- or queen-size beds, oversized bathtubs and French doors that open onto private balconies with flower boxes. Light-colored English Country patterned wallpaper is accented by lovely Gracia Dayton watercolor paintings. Rooms in the historic Harkness Wing have working fireplaces and exposed beam ceilings.

Seasons, the hotel's rooftop restaurant, serves such entrees as scallops and leeks with avocado and American caviar, duckling with ginger and scallions, shelled lobster with carrot tagliatelle, and rack of lamb in a light, airy atmosphere of contemporary elegance. Menus change four times annually to offer the best cuisine of each season.
